Oral Interpretations of Poetry

SPE 302 | 2 Credit Hours
This course focuses on superior delivery of the thought and feeling from the printed page to the listener. Emphasis is placed on the proper interpretation of the poetic form. Students will use in-depth interpretation techniques in their performances of lyric, narrative, and dramatic poetry with a strong priority on interpretation of the Scriptures.

Public Speaking

SPE 301 | 2 Credit Hours
This course emphasizes the principles of speech organization, delivery methods, ethical use of argumentation and debate, as well as effective platform performance. Extemporaneous performances include persuasive, informative, devotional, and special occasions.

Storytelling

SPE 202 | 2 Credit Hours
Principles of effective storytelling methods will be introduced and practiced. Students will be evaluated as they tell stories for various age groups and other speech situations. Some time will be given to using storytelling techniques for skits and small plays.

Voice and Diction

SPE 201 | 2 Credit Hours
Students concentrate on the proper use of the voice. Through various performances, students develop effective methods of relaxation, good posture, proper breathing, correct phonation, and vocal variety as essential to proper speech.

Applied Speech

SPE 111 | 1 Credit Hour
The student receives personalized instruction and direction in effective interpretive speech. To provide full audience experience, students will complete one memorized sacred speech during the IBC recital or concert.

Senior Music Major Platforms

MUS 491 | 0 Credit Hours
A platform evaluation of the performance skills in the primary proficiency of a student majoring in music. This evaluation normally takes place during the first semester of the senior year.

Senior Music Minor Platforms

MUS 490 | 0 Credit Hours
A platform evaluation of the performance skills in the primary proficiency of a student minoring in music. This evaluation normally takes place during the first semester of the senior year.

Choral Arranging

MUS 414 | 2 Credit Hours
A study of the techniques and procedures required in arranging and in creative writing for voices.

Orchestration

MUS 413 | 2 Credit Hours
Students learn to score and arrange music for various instruments and instrumental combinations. The ranges and limitations of the instruments are also studied.

Music Theory V

MUS 401 | 2 Credit Hours
A continuation of MUS 302. This course instructs the student in advanced harmonic analysis, basic phrase structure, and complete forms.
